MOBILE TRAINING

As the Country’s population increases, so does the demand for power. Increase in Green Energy puts a tremendous load on our aging infrastructure. The demand for power is greater now than it ever has been and increasing every day.

This increase in power delivery means more Apprentices, more Lineman, more work and unfortunately, more accidents. Statistics show that most accidents can be prevented, this prevention is a combination of strong Safety Culture and Training. A strong Safety Culture and Training are our goals for our industry to help eliminate some of these human-related accidents.

Mountain States JATC recognizes the need to offer high-level training to any IBEW member in the Mountain States Region. We have a strong vision to make a difference in work methods and safety culture. We strive to provide the best training in the industry using proper work methods while following all OSHA standards.

Please take the time to review the current course options but not limited to. If you see a need for a particular type of training not listed or want to vary the length of a current course, please contact us.

These courses are offered to ANY IBEW MEMBER, Contractors, Utilities, COOP’s, Municipalities, THIS IS FOR YOU! We have 3 state of the art training centers to offer indoor and outdoor training courses, Helena, Montana, Tooele, Utah and Lochbuie, Colorado. At this time, we can only offer the Transmission courses at our Helena facility. OR let us come to you! We are completely mobile, offering most of our courses at your location, whether it be at your training yard or at on one of your projects.

Courses available but not limited to:

Distribution Hotstick 

20-40 hrs

Course Description: learn hotstick techniques on various structures, aluminum ties, cross arm change out, dead end insulator change out, cut in flying bell, splice wire

 

Temporary Protective Grounding (EPZ)

4-8 hrs

Course Description: classroom EPZ presentation with tabletop simulator (4hrs) go outside in the afternoon and demonstrate EPZ scenarios
 

Hotstick Care, Maintenance and Testing, Ground Set Testing

3 hrs

Course Description: how hotsticks are made, how to maintain and test them, how to test ground sets
 

Transmission Hotstick

20-40 hrs

Course Description: learn calculations for figuring wire weight and tensions, insulator change out on suspension string, dead end string and running angle, cross arm change out on H frame
 

Rubber Glove Work Methods

8 hrs
 

Fall Protection

8 hrs

Course Description: learn proper fall protection requirements for ladder work, baker board work, leaving the pole on H frame and tower work
 

Tower Rescues
 

Level 1: Ground Based Rescue

16 hrs

Introduction

Course Description: This class will introduce the equipment and rigging methods used to rescue an  individual from a tower while rigging from the ground. This will include classroom instruction and hands-on ground-based training.
 

Level 2: Structure Based Rescue

8 hrs

Prerequisite: Level 1 Tower Rescue or demonstrated competency/trade experience

Course Description: This class will build on the skills of the rescuer being ground based to being on the structure. This will include some classroom training, but mostly hands-on tower-based training.
 

Level 3: High Risk Rescue

8 hrs

Prerequisite: Level 1 and 2 Tower Rescue or demonstrated competency/trade experience

Course Description: This class will build on the skills of the rescuer being ground/structure based to rescuing the victim by placing them in their system and lowering both to a safe position on the ground. This will include high angle rigging and rescue to avoid violating minimum approach.

Rope Access Barehand

80 hrs

Prerequisite​​​: Level 1, 2, and 3 Tower Rescue or demonstrated competency/trade experience

Course Description: This class will prepare the learners to utilize ropes and rigging to access and work energized lines. This is an extremely high level skill that requires competent and dedicated individuals to be trained to perform this type of work.

Bucket and Pole Top Rescue

8 hrs (dependent on number of participants)

Course Description: bucket and or pole top rescue
 

Confined Space Training and Rescue

8 hrs (dependent on number of participants)

Course Description: teach the proper way to prepare a confined space before entering, proper PPE, proper rescue equipment and rescue training

Field Leadership

Course Description: examine the root cause of incidents in the electrical industry often caused by poor communication and lack of leadership/ownership
